The Amiga 1000 was launched on July 23, 1985. Commodore Brought the Amiga to the public eye in a star-studded gala featuring Andy Warhol and Debbie Harry at the Lincoln Center in New York City. The Amiga 1000 had a number of major advantages over its competitors Apple Mac or IBM-PC, including a broad color palette, impressive animation capabilities, and its ability to multitask. Commodore’s first Amiga Home Computer launched for $1295 with a keyboard, and a mouse. The system included 256KB RAM and an 880KB floppy drive. The system shipped under the sole name ‘Amiga’ at first, but Commodore rechristened the computer the ‘Amiga 1000’ after the launch of the very successful Amiga 500 in 1987.
