Download the entire Netflix library in less than a second

A team of UCL engineers has achieved a new record speed for data transmission over the Internet. It recorded a data transmission capacity of 178 million megabits per second. The speed is close to the theoretical limit of data transmissions indicated by the American mathematician Claude Shannon as early as 1949 and today would make it possible to download the entire Netflix library in less than a second. To achieve this new milestone of 178 terabits per second, the engineers generated random bits with an advanced artificial intelligence system, which were subsequently transmitted through a 40 km fiber optic network. The previous record was in Australia hreaching 44.2 terabits per second.
