Simple DirectMedia Layer is a cross-platform development library designed to provide low level access to audio, keyboard, mouse, joystick, and graphics hardware via OpenGL and Direct3D. Over the years SDL was used for many commercial and non-commercial video game projects. For instance, the SDL website itself listed around 700 games in 2012. Important commercial examples are Angry Birds and Unreal Tournament; ones from the open-source domain are OpenTTD, The Battle for Wesnoth or Freeciv. The current release is version 2.0.14 and offers several improvements and bugfixes.
